One of the subjects I love to photograph is the old and forgotten buildings of New Jersey. You see more and more abandon buildings, factories, and homes being demolished each day. I feel the need to document these historic sites to preserve them knowing they may not be standing in a few years.
On this adventure I explored the dark forest that was the forgotten town of Atsion, New Jersey.
I found an old school house, covered with graffiti and lost to time.
Beyond the over grown railroad and long forgotten ruins of a factory I came across an small old cemetery with graves of the towns people from long ago. There were very few graves from this century most was early 1800's.
Deep deep in the woods I found an old car and what looked like a moonshine making set up. Bottles and jugs littered the forest floor.
Not part of Atsion, but equally important to document is the building below. I found this building while on my way home and had to stop and take a photo.
I am Lizabeth Carl, photographer and owner of Lizabeth Carl Photography. I am 30 years old and have lived in South Jersey my whole life. I was also probably born in the wrong generation because I am hippie at heart.
