Untitled Flower Series
Digital
reincarnation - 1) embodiment in a new form. 2) a second or new birth.
Over time I found that the subjects that I like to photograph are old abandoned buildings, landscapes, and flowers. This is what led me to choose flowers as my subject for this project. The theme of my portfolio is life and death.
Both perspectives are represented in each piece for you cannot have life without having death. With death the cycle begins again as new life, which is represented in the before and after images which together form one larger image. The photographs symbolize the unpredictable journey through life.
When I work with flowers I am reminded that there is much beauty in the world. I begin a piece by first selecting a flower that is either just blooming or already flowered and take a picture of it out side with natural light. I use a digital SLR camera with a 4x or 10x macro adapter so that I can get really close to the bud. I wait for the flower to wilt and die naturally so that I can make the second half of the picture. Using Photoshop, I arrange the two photos to make one larger image that connects the two as a whole. I know a piece is completed when I see that the two images create the desired effect. When my work is completed, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and joy because the finished photograph has both harmony and beauty.
